The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) lauded Monday President Rodrigo Duterte’s “seriousness to correct historical injustices against the Moro people,” following his speech to Arab businessmen during his week-long trip to the Middle East.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte said he was planning to certify as urgent a harmonized version of the Bangsamoro law proposed by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) faction under Nur Misuari, and the draft document to be crafted by the 21-member Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) in a bid to end the decades-long Moro armed struggle in Mindanao.
As it was in the Aquino administration, so it is under the Duterte administration: it is still a race against time for the Bangsamoro.
There are only 48 days left between March 31 and May 18, the target date for the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) to complete its draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) for submission to President Rodrigo Duterte so he can study it before it is sent to Congress, and 115 days to July 24, the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) where he is expected to certify the bill as urgent.
The Pro PolitiCS for Peace project recently embarked on a collaborative undertaking with the Regional Commission on Bangsamoro Women (RCBW-ARMM) to harness the informed-participation of the Bangsamoro women political leaders, women traditional leaders, women leaders of the Royal Houses, women opinion makers, and gatekeepers of women power in the larger Bangsamoro society, to the broader peace process.
The national government (GPH) must deliver a “political solution” to end the Bangsamoro armed struggle by fully implementing the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB) through the passage of an acceptable enabling law, said the new Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) chair Ghazali Jaafar.
“This is a political problem and it can only satisfy the Bangsamoro people pagna-deliver ang political solution,” Jaafar, who is also first vice chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), said on Wednesday (March 29) at the a hotel in Davao.
